Nina Garcia, Project Runway judge and Creative Director at Marie Claire said, “I’m a big believer that accessories can make or break a look”.  Nina, we couldn’t agree more. Accessories and shoes can take a limited wardrobe and make it limitless. A necklace here, a scarf there, a change of shoes: all of a sudden you have multiple looks for multiple occasions all based around one single garment. Don’t believe us? We’ll prove it!

Yubin Choi, aka Mistress of Hosiery, is like many Simons employees: a Millennial on a budget. (Those student loans are killer, you guys). She frequents local consignment shops like Second Time Around and Buffalo Exchange, as well as TJMaxx and Gap, in search of versatile, frugal finds to round out her wardrobe.

We recently completed an accessory style challenge brought to us by Instagram user @midlifestyletips. We wanted to show how you could use Simons shoes and accessories to to make a basic black trapeze-style dress work for any occasion, in this case a day of work at the store, date night at the Coolidge, and Yubin’s upcoming trip to Paris this summer.

Work

There’s nothing better than a pair of Dansko clogs for a 9-hour workday on your feet. The cordovan works great as a bold yet neutral color. We paired Yubin’s LBD with a pair of Hue leggings along with a basic black cardigan from Yubin’s own closet. A red leather Osgoode Marley backpack makes for a great commuter bag.

From Simons:

Osgoode Marley 5020 Ink Backpack $209

Dansko Professional Cordovan Clog $120

Hue Wide Waistband Leggings $36

Date Night:

For date night Yubin’s rocking one of our favorite styles from Rieker this season. They’re flirty yet comfortable; perfect for a post-movie stroll through Coolidge Corner or a trip to JP Licks. Yubin’s military style jacket paired with the Hobo clutch with optional crossbody strap provides a cool contrast to the frilly trapeze dress.

From Simons:

Rieker 67366 Brown Heeled Sandals $120

Hobo SO-82177 Brown Fringe Clutch $158

Travel:

Yubin used her recent tax refund to plan a trip to Paris with a couple girlfriends. She’s packing light and efficiently, pairing her black dress with another versatile spring and summer wardrobe essential, a chambray shirt. To protect her delicate ivory skin from the sun, she’ll be bringing along a Sunday Afternoon wide brim hat which is foldable and crush-proof so it packs great. The Wolky Rio sandal is new this season, a cool alternative to the Jewel and comes with a thousand mile guarantee. Finally you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better bag for travel than the Highrise crossbody from Baggallini.  It’s perfect compact, organized, and water and stain resistant.

From Simons:

Baggallini Highrise Crossbody in Apple $42

Sunday Afternoon Riviera Hat in Tweed $39

Wolky Rio Sandal in Black Nubuck $159
